UNI WEEK

Early in December Nick dedicated a few evenings to travel across town to the University of Otago which is New Zealand's oldest university to capture some images and produce a uni week collection of these historic and beautiful buildings.

A little bit of history: a committee led by Thomas Burns was instrumental in creating the University of Otago which was founded in 1869 by the Otago Provincial Council with the first students accepted in July 1971.

In it's first year Otago University had a staff of 3 professors in the fields of Classics & English literature,  Mathematics & Natural philosophy and a third area Mental & Moral philosophy and Political Economy.

Today the university is home to 17000 full time students with Dunedin being well known for its lively student population of ‘scarfies’.  Otago uni students have been nicknamed scarfies due to the employing of scarves to combat the cold winter of the south.
