A place of discovery, reflection and inspiration.
The gallery footprint encapsulated within the spherical shell of a light fitting illuminating both ‘hosted’ and ‘host’ in a tribute to the creative.

T h e I s l a n d
The mystery of the oceanic is enticing.
On this particular summer evening in January it was as though the waves were raging against an unseen foe with huge emerald breakers crashing heavily onto the shore, seaspray flying wildly through the air with abandon.

Showcasing a little bit of ‘retro’ from Ravensbourne
with the setting summer sun illuminating No. 203 Ravensbourne Road,
a red brick beauty which once operated as a neighbourhood grocer.
Size: A1 (594 x 841 mm) framed in natural oak.
T h e B e a c h
Entitled ‘captivating coastline’, this piece captures one brief moment in a sunrise. The dusty peach horizon casting colour across the beachfront as tendrils of sea mist rise and sprawl softly across the land.
Taken at 6 am the ocean lovers are out and about, the beach dotted with runners, walkers, dogs and photographers absorbing the elements.

Just when he thought the show was over… it changed, nature generously bestowing the element of surprise upon an unsuspecting photographer by presenting phase three of a morning sky show.
Arguably the best seats in the house.

T h e S t a t i o n
A little snippet of the evolution of travel - Dunedin’s railway station (once the busiest in the country) standing regally behind parked cars and a lime scooter with 5 oclock traffic filling the one way street.
A series of lines representing the movement of strangers and of friends with a few ‘hi Nick’s’ floating by on the way past.

This little phone box is hidden away in an inner city location, discovered while on the window cleaning tools abseiling nearby.
It was an all day waiting game to capture the phone box with a camera , the height of surrounding buildings blocking the light until finally…. this moment happened.

This image was taken on the 1st of January 2019 at 6 am featuring the rocks below Lawyers Head. It was named ‘Unchartered’ in a nod to the unexplored days of a new year and the promise found in starting over.

T h e B r i d g e
Sometimes something catches your eye……
It was 5.50 am and four days before Christmas (2018), the sculptural qualities of the newly opened Water of Leith Bridge calling out to be captured by a camera.
Enhanced by colour in the sky and in the water below, the bridge is a striking addition to local infrastructure.

Sometimes ones attention is grabbed by the wild and unrestrained but in this case it was the symmetry and soft tones over the ocean creating a scene that could only be described as harmonious at the St Clair Esplanade.
Harmonious as long as the shark bell central remains quiet.

There is something quite special about this part of town (The Warehouse Precinct), imagine the stories of distant days these buildings could tell, of real people going about their everyday on Vogel Street.
The renewal of many buildings has preserved the industrial heritage that was foundational to Dunedin, creating space for the writing of a new chapters in their aged covers.
This image is about seeing something old and something new.

This photograph is a favourite, beginning with ‘the potential in a puddle’, then enduring the waiting, planning and repeated visits to successfully photograph The Terminus building reflected in water on the street.
A favourite because it contains a quality that is elusive and difficult to define and we are quite partial to those kind of shots around here.

We called this collection Elements, attempting to focus in on a few different parts of the wider city including some favourite photographs of spots enjoyed by many locals and visitors to Dunedin.
